A brief history of Northern Iron & Machine

Northern Iron & Machine was originally established as the Walter A. Wood Harvester Company in 1892, later known as International Harvester. Northern Iron & Machine was founded by local businesspeople in 1906 and later relocated to its current site. The foundry produced malleable iron for the automotive, agricultural, and trucking industries. The company began producing ductile iron in 1968, which gradually replaced malleable iron until it was completely phased out in 1996. Consequently, the name was changed to Northern Iron & Machine. Currently, 80% of our production is comprised of ductile and austempered ductile iron, with the focus being gray iron.

Over the years, Northern Iron & Machine has established itself as a reliable supplier of high-quality cast iron products. We have stayed at the forefront of the industry by investing in the latest technology and equipment, as well as by continuously improving our manufacturing processes. Our team of experienced engineers, technicians, and skilled workers ensure that every product that leaves our facility meets our standards of quality and durability. In addition to our commitment to quality, we are also dedicated to sustainability. We strive to minimize our environmental impact by using recycled scrap metal and energy-efficient equipment. We also prioritize the safety and well-being of our employees, providing them with ongoing training and a safe working environment. Looking to the future, we are excited to continue growing and innovating, while staying true to our core values of quality, sustainability, and safety.

Since 1986, the machine shop at Northern Iron & Machine has been dedicated to providing top-notch finished machined products to customers. Our goal remains the same today: to create the highest quality finished machined and painted gray iron, ductile iron, and austempered ductile iron casting. In August of 2006, Northern Iron & Machine became an independent entity separate from the Versa Group of Companies. As we look to the future, we’re excited to announce that in August 2022, we became part of The Lawton Standard family of companies.

The Lawton Standard is a well-known and respected name in the industry, with a long history of producing top-quality castings and machined products. By joining forces with The Lawton Standard, Northern Iron & Machine has been able to expand its capabilities and continue to provide exceptional service and products to our customers. With a focus on innovation, technology, and customer satisfaction, we’re confident that this new partnership will only strengthen our commitment to excellence. We’re proud of our legacy of quality casting and machining, and we look forward to a bright future as part of The Lawton Standard family.
